A video of women mourning amid a large group of people has gone viral. Those sharing the video claim that it shows people grieving the death of Anurag Yadav – a 17-year-old taekwondo player who was brutally murdered in Kabiruddin village, Uttar Pradesh. They also claim that the motive behind Anurag’s murder is communal. (Archive)

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. According to police statements in the media, Anurag Yadav was murdered due to a land dispute and there is no communal angle.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found a screenshot of the video uploaded by Aaj Tak on October 30, 2024. The report suggested that Anurag Yadav was brushing his teeth when a youngster from his neighbourhood came with a sword and decapitated him. The investigation further revealed that the murderers were Lalta Yadav and his son Ramesh.

Another report by the Navbharat Times suggested that the murderers of the 17-year-old Taekwondo player were taken into custody. The report named the accused as Ramesh Kumar Yadav, son of Lalta Yadav. He murdered Anurag due to a land dispute, the report said.

Hence, we conclude that the viral claim is false and there is no communal angle to Anurag’s murder.
