Amid the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, a video of a grieving lady holding a baby in a white shroud has gone viral.
A similar video of an old man holding the same baby has also gone viral.
Both videos are shared with a caption claiming that Palestinians are staging a drama with a plastic doll that resembles a baby.
A social media user shared the post with a caption that read, “IDF …please don’t waste your bullets on plastic dolls. Hamas … please try something more believable.., What a Drama.”
SouthCheck found the claim to be fake.
On doing a Google Reverse Image search with one of the keyframes, we found the same visual was published on X by Quds News Network, a Palestenian social media handle from Palestine. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “A grieving mother bids her baby a sorrowful farewell after the latter was killed in an Israeli airstrike in #Gaza this morning.”
Taking a hint, we searched and found a similar video uploaded by Tgrt Haber with a caption that reads, “This is how the Gazan grandfather said goodbye to his grandson, 5-month-old Mohammed. With the end of the Israeli army's humanitarian break, bombardment against civilians in Gaza resumed. This is how the Gazan grandfather said goodbye to his deceased 5-month-old grandson.”
We found that Getty Images also uploaded images of both the woman and the man holding the baby in the shroud with a caption that reads, “DEIR AL-BALAH, GAZA - DECEMBER 1: Dead body of a 5-month-old Palestinian baby named Muhammad Hani Al-Zahar, is brought to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital by his mother Asmahan Attia Al-Zahar and grandfather Attia Abu Amra after the Israeli airstrikes at the end of the humanitarian pause in Deir Al-Balah, Gaza on December 1, 2023. 32 Palestinians were killed within 3 hours of the end of the humanitarian pause in Gaza. Hence, we can ascertain that the baby in the video not a plastic doll.
