A video is widely shared on WhatsApp in which some people are seen molesting a lady sitting on a bike.
The description associated with the video read that it was of West Bengal, where Muslims are harassing a Hindu woman.
The video is shared with a description suggesting that Mamata Banerjee has given so much freedom to Muslims in West Bengal that they are molesting Hindu a woman.
SouthCheck found the claim to be false. We found that the video is old and is from Bihar.
On listening to the audio, we could hear people speaking in Bhojpuri, a language in Bihar.
Taking a hint, we searched with the appropriate keyword and found the same video was uploaded by a Facebook page on October 5, 2021. The caption associated with the video suggested that the video was from Chhapra district, Bihar.
However, further investigation revealed a report published by Bhaskar, 2 years ago. A screenshot of the video was also shared, and the report hinted that the woman was molested in the Saran district of Bihar, where a woman was molested publicly. After the video went viral, four people were arrested by the police.
Hindustan Times had also reported about the incident. The report read that after the video went viral, police started an investigation and found that the video was of Saran district’s Lakshman-Chak locality under Dariyapur police station on September 27. The report further suggested that no case was registered against the accused, but police took suo moto cognisance of the matter and arrested the primary accused in the matter, along with three others.
The official Twitter handle of District Administration Saran also tweeted a press release regarding the matter on October 6, 2021. The press release suggested that the police had identified the molesters, and four out of six were arrested by the police.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is from Bihar, and not West Bengal.
