Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was misleading. We found that the viral video is from Bangladesh and has no communal angle involved in it.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was uploaded on the YouTube channel, Dhaka Mirror on September 8, 2024. The caption when translated into English suggested that the Juba Dal leader publicly slapped the controversial freedom fighter commander in Barguna.

The screenshots of the video were also published by Prothomalo on September 8, 2024. The report suggested that the old man in the video was Barguna District Freedom Fighters Congress ex-commander and former district Awami League member Abdur Rashid Miya. The incident happened in front of the district commissioner’s office in Barguna.

We found that Abdur Rashid Miya had also spoken to Jamuna TV about the Barguna incident. Abdur said that he was harassed by Shao Molla, the son of BNP leader Mahbubul Alam Farooq Molla.

Another news website suggested that a case has been registered against Shao Molla for the alleged assault.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
