Fact Check: Israelis flee country amid ongoing conflict with Iran? No, video is old and unrelated

The claim is false. The viral video is old and from Tel Aviv. It is unrelated to the conflict.

In June 2025, Israel and Iran exchanged direct missile strikes for the first time, targeting military and nuclear sites. Iran’s missiles hit Israeli cities and hospitals, prompting Israeli retaliation. Hundreds were killed, sparking global fears of regional war.

In the above context, a video is widely being shared on social media in which people are seen running on the street in panic.

The video is being shared on social media with a caption suggesting that it shows Israelis evacuating their homes amid the conflict.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “VIDEO | Tonight, Israelis are experiencing what Gazans go through every day.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. We found that the viral video is old and shows people running in panic in Tel Aviv during a Memorial Day event on April 29.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by an Instagram page, Jewish Breaking News, on April 30, with a caption that reads, “Dramatic footage shows crowds fleeing from the Habima Square in Tel Aviv tonight. In the end, it turned out to be a false alarm caused by an incident involving the ushers.”

The video was shared by the Instagram page of an Israeli digital news channel on April 30, with a caption suggesting that people at Habima Square mistook a police arrest as a terror attack. As a result, people started fleeing in panic, resulting in injuries to 21 people.

Taking a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found the incident was also reported by The Times of Israel on April 29. The report suggests that in Tel Aviv’s Habima Square on April 29, panic erupted at a Memorial Day event after police arrested a man suspected of assaulting officers. False rumours of gunfire fuelled chaos, but authorities confirmed no security threat or shooting occurred.

Therefore, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
