Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated into open conflict after cross-border clashes. Pakistan launched air and artillery strikes deep inside Afghan territory, including Kabul, claiming to target Taliban and militant bases in response to attacks it blames on Afghan-based groups. Both sides report heavy casualties and destruction, and international actors are urging de-escalation amid rising civilian impact.

In the above context, a video is widely being shared on social media in which smoke and fire are seen in a building situated in the centre of a city.

The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows a drone attack by Afghanistan in Pakistan.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Lashkar-e-Taiba training camp inside Pakistan reportedly struck by Iranian-origin Shahed drones launched by Afghan Taliban forces. Developing story.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old and shows Israel’s attack on Tehran.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a YouTube channel, ABC News, on June 18, 2025. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “Israel and Iran trade deadly strikes amid fears of escalation.”

We found that the screenshot of the video was shared by NDTV on June 18, 2025.

According to the reports, the Israel Defence Forces launched what it called the largest air operation in its history, sending around 200 fighter jets to strike nearly 500 targets across western and central Iran. The coordinated offensive focused on Iran’s missile launchers and air-defence systems, marking a major escalation in regional hostilities.

We found that the same video was shared by Firstpost on June 19, 2025. The caption associated with the image read, “Smoke rises from a fire, as the Israel-Iran air war continues, in Tehran, Iran. Reuters.”

Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false.
