A video is widely being shared on social media in which Home Minister Amit Shah is heard saying: “This is why I say that there is no meaning of this guarantee. They say it before elections and then forget.”
The video is shared with a caption claiming that Shah said these lines for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The caption suggests that Shah is taking a dig at PM Modi and asking people to not believe the promises that he made during the elections as it was only till that time.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “मोदी के गारंटी का कोई मतलब नहीं!”.
SouthCheck found the claim to be misleading. The viral video is edited. In the original video, Amit Shah takes a dig at Rahul Gandhi for making fake promises during elections.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the full-length video was uploaded by the YouTube channel of Amit Shah. In the original video Shah is seen giving an interview to ANI’s Smita Prakash.
The video was uploaded on May 15, 2024. In the video at around 25:35 timestamp, one can hear saying these lines. However, before this Smita Prakash is seen asking question to Shah on Congress' election guarantee. To this Shah says that he has visited Telangana where he saw that women were seeking Rs 12,000 from the government. There the farmers were asking when will loan of Rs 2 lakh be waived and girls were waiting for the scooty that Rahul Gandhi had promised during the election.
Later when Smita Prakash asks him that now elections are over in the South and Rahul Gandhi has come to the North. To this Shah says that even when the elections were in the South he used to go there. Further at around 26:26, Shah says, "This is why I say that there is no meaning of this guarantee. They say it before elections and then forget.”
The video was also shared by the official YouTube channel of BJP.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is edited. In the original video, Shah was taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi.
