The West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections 2026 will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29 to elect 294 MLAs. Results are scheduled for May 4. The main contest is between All India Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, with Mamata Banerjee seeking another term amid intense political rivalry.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which an army convoy is seen patrolling the streets.
The video is shared with a caption claiming that it shows the army patrolling in an armoured vehicle in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Service, security, dedication. The central government is committed to the safety of Bengalis. Even then, if Hindus in Bengal vote for Mamata, they themselves will be responsible for their condition. Latest images from Murshidabad.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is of Nepal.
On closely observing the video, at around 17 seconds, we can see a bus with the text that reads, ‘Sagarmatha Yatayat.’ Using this information, we searched using keywords and found it to be a private bus service in Nepal.
We also found a news report on the road conditions of Nepal. In this report, an image of a Sagarmatha Yatayat bus can be seen, which is the same as the image of the bus in the viral video.
We further found that the building has the 'Gorkha departmental store' and 'Gorkha guest house' written on it. We searched with appropriate keywords and found a video from the location. While the video is of a protest, we can see the same location in the viral video. We can see the same orange building with Gorkha written on it. The caption suggests that the video is from Nepal’s Jhapa.
Moreover, using Google Maps, we found the same orange building seen in the viral video. Thus, suggesting that the viral video is of Nepal’s Jhapa.
While we could not independently verify the time and purpose of the army patrolling in the video, we can ascertain that the viral video is from Nepal.
