The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and its supporters has been holding a round-the-clock protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since June 20, demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged exam paper leaks and reforms to the public examination system.
The movement escalated after Sonam Wangchuk joined with an indefinite hunger strike. On July 20, a ‘Sansad Chalo’ march led to violent clashes with police, leaving over 170 people injured, while protesters resumed their sit-in at Jantar Mantar despite the crackdown.
In the above context, a video of Hyderabad MP and President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, Asaduddin Owaisi, is widely being shared on social media.
What is the viral video?
In the video he is seen surrounded by a massive crowd. He is seen making his way out of a crowd with a black car in the background and people trying to capture photos and videos.
The text embedded on the video reads, “Asaduddin Owaisi arrived at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, drawing attention from supporters, media, and people gathered there today his visit sparked discussions and increased public interest across the protest venue.”
Thus, the video is being shared with a caption suggesting that Owaisi has visited Jantar Mantar to show his support to the ongoing CJP protest.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Cockroach janta party support of ASADUDDIN OWAISI #news #india #delhi.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is of him sitting Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to address a rally ahead of UP elections 2027.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook page, Inquilab Hyderabad on July 18. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “As part of his Mission UP 2027 #AIMIM chief @asadowaisi shifted focus to western #UttarPradesh, holding a full-house rally in Saharanpur - a traditional #Congress-Samajwadi stronghold among Muslim voters.”
Moreover, the video was also shared by Zee Rajasthan News on its YouTube channel on July 20, 2026. At around the 00:34 timestamp, we can see the same video of Owaisi making his way out of the crowd as seen in the viral video.
The video was shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Owaisi while addressing a large rally at Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, ahead of elections in 2027.
As of today now, the Election Commission of India has not announced the official schedule for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. However, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar recently stated that the ongoing Census will not delay the UP Assembly elections, and that they will be conducted on schedule.
A screenshot of the video was also shared by a website, Janta se Rishta on July 19. The report associated with the image suggests that the image is of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, addressing a rally in Saharanpur ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
In the rally, he attacked the BJP over repeated exam paper leaks, unemployment and issues concerning mosques in Sambhal and Saharanpur, as well as Rampur’s Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. He said AIMIM was willing to join a pre-poll alliance to defeat the BJP. Owaisi also mocked repeated microphone disruptions during his speech.
Did Owaisi attend CJP protest?
According to an ANI report, Owaisi condemned the Delhi Police action against the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, calling it part of the government’s ‘consistent behaviour’ towards protests. He alleged the authorities suppress peaceful demonstrations instead of addressing public concerns, describing the police response as evidence of ‘complete disorder’ under the current government.
However, we were not able to find any reports of him attending the protest.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
