A video of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has gone viral on social media. In the video, he is heard saying, “We don’t want Yogi Adityanath's government to be formed in UP for a third time. We had made an open offer in Bihar as well; you didn't accept it. We've made it again today — that's their call — but we will put in our full effort.”

The video is shared with a caption claiming he said he wants Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to return to power for a third consecutive term. The clip has been shared widely amid early political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 UP Assembly elections.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “I want Yogi Adityanath to form the government in UP for the third time! ~ Asaduddin Owaisi”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is edited. In the original video, Owaisi said his party does not want Yogi Adityanath to become the chief minister of UP for the third time.

On searching with relevant keywords, we did not find any credible news report suggesting that the AIMIM leader had backed Adityanath for another term.

Instead, the team found an X post by news agency IANS, dated October 25. In the video, we can hear Owaisi saying, “Our party also does not want Yogi Adityanath to become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for a third time.”

The video is also shared with a caption that reads, "Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, on the alliance, says, ''We will inform you once the alliance is finalised. We have already stated this on record and have been saying it repeatedly, but these people seem to be interpreting it differently! Our party also does not want Yogi Adityanath to become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for a third time. If you do not want that and we do not want that either, then we will join hands with whoever shares this objective.''

That is a direct contradiction of the claim being circulated online.

The longer version of the video was also shared by PTI on October 26.

In this video also, Owaisi reiterates that he does not want the Yogi Adityanath-led government to return to power for a third term. He goes on to say that his party will make every effort to ensure that the BJP government is not formed in Uttar Pradesh and expresses his desire to see AIMIM candidates elected to the state Assembly.

We further found a report published by The Economic Times on October 26, 2026. According to the report, Owaisi said his party will make every effort to ensure a BJP government is not formed in Uttar Pradesh and that he does not want Yogi Adityanath to become chief minister for a third term. Addressing a rally in Kairana, Shamli, he offered to join hands with other opposition parties sharing that goal, while criticising them for staying silent on issues facing minorities and weaker sections.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
