On September 27, CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka, along with more than 40 volunteers, was detained from the residence of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Kunki Chowdhury in Dispur, ahead of their maiden ‘volunteer meet-up’ in Guwahati.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke warned that he would travel to Assam with other party members if Ranka was not released. The opposition also criticised Sarma and the state government over the detentions.
In the above context, a video of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has gone viral on social media, where he can be heard saying, ‘will kick them out.’ The video also has a screenshot of the tweet of Dipke which reads, “Assam Police has detained @AshutoshRanka and CJP team and is taking them to an unknown location. Ashu and co were going to have a small volunteers meet up in Assam.”
Another text embedded on the video reads, “Thank You, Mama, for Detaining Ashutosh Ranka and the CJP jokers in Assam.”
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Himanta Biswa Sarma threatening the CJP and its volunteers, who have been detained in Assam ahead of a scheduled meet-up.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “‘Laat Maar Ke Bhagaunga’ In Action: Assam Police Gives Cockroach Ranka A Special Farewell!”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from the April 2026 Bengal election rally, where CM Himanta Biswa Sarma threatened ‘infiltrators and Bangladeshi Muslims’.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by News 24 on April 25.
According to the caption, the footage shows Sarma speaking at an election rally in West Bengal. During the rally, he stated that if the BJP forms the government in Bengal, infiltrators and Bangladeshi Muslims will be kicked out. He also added that what happened to Hindus in Bangladesh would not be forgotten.
A longer version of the video was also shared by Republic Bharat on April 25.
The caption associated with the video reads, “Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said at an election rally in Baguiati, West Bengal on Friday that if the BJP forms a government in Bengal, it will kick out infiltrators and Bangladeshi Muslims. What happened to Hindus in Bangladesh will not be forgotten.”
Moreover, the video was also shared by ANI on April 20.
In this longer version, we can hear Sarma speaking at an election rally in Baguiati, West Bengal. During the rally, he stated that if the BJP forms the government in Bengal, infiltrators and Bangladeshi Muslims will be kicked out. He also added that what happened to Hindus in Bangladesh would not be forgotten.
The video predates the CJP rally in Assam. Therefore, we can ascertain that the Assam CM was threatening infiltrators and Bangladeshi Muslims, not the CJP.
