A video of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has been circulating on social media, reportedly showing her criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the video, she is reportedly heard questioning the PM, stating that he ‘could not manage his family, so how would he manage Bihar.’
The social media post shared the video and wrote, “Rekha Gupta cannot make such comments on PM Modi. We strongly condemn this.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is edited. In the original video, Rekha Gupta was criticising RJD supremo, Lalu Yadav.
On a Google reverse image search of key frames from the viral video, we found the full version uploaded to the YouTube channel of Nav Bharat Times on October 15.
The video is titled ‘LIVE: CM Rekha Gupta’s public meeting in Bihar, overwhelming public support | Bihar election.’
In the video, at around the 48:05-minute mark, she says, “This is a party (BJP) that is not corrupt… they worry about the citizens of the country. Those who cannot manage their own family, how will they manage Bihar? That is why we need to give Bihar’s reins into strong hands…”
In the full video, Delhi Chief Minister Gupta is seen campaigning for the BJP candidate as part of the NDA alliance. Throughout her address, she praises the ‘Nitish-Modi duo’ and the work of the NDA government in Bihar. The segment used in the viral clip is extracted from a part of her speech where she is clearly criticising the opposition RJD party and Lalu Yadav's family.
During her speech, Gupta used a metaphor to indicate that the RJD’s era was over. She stated, “The kerosene in the lantern has now run out. It lacks light. Now is the era of LED lights.” The lantern is the official election symbol of the RJD, making it evident that her criticism was aimed at them, not at PM Modi or the BJP.
