An image of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin allegedly waving the Tricolour upside down with the green on top and orange at the bottom has gone viral.
Those sharing the image claim it shows Nitin Nabin holding the flag upside down during a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ event.
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “During the Tiranga Yatra, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, whose party claims to be the largest political party in the world.”
Newsmeter found that the claim is false. The image is doctored.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that a similar image was shared by BJP’s official website on August 13.
The image is shared with a caption that reads, “Hon’ble BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin proudly hoisted the Tricolour under ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign at his residence in New Delhi.”
We compared the viral image with the original image and found that the original image clearly shows Nitin Nabin holding the Tricolour with the saffron stripe at the top and green at the bottom, exactly as prescribed by the Flag Code of India.
Nitin Nabin’s official X handle also posted a video on August 13, showing him hoisting the Tricolour at his residence under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. In the video as well, the saffron stripe is clearly visible at the top and green at the bottom.
The image was also shared by BJP’s official X account on August 13 with a caption that reads, “BJP National President Shri @NitinNabin hoisted the Tricolour on the roof of his house under the #HarGharTiranga campaign and took a proud selfie. You too become a part of this campaign, hoist the Tricolour at your home, take a selfie, and post it with full pride!”
