Fact Check

Summary

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from July 6 and shows the inauguration of Arun Singh’s office in Barrackpore.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Arun Singh, the Minister-In-Charge, Department of Labour and Transport, Govt. of West Bengal, on his X account on July 6.

The video was shared with a caption that reads, “On the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee, I attended a quiz competition organised by Barrackpore Police Station under the @bkpcitypoliceat Pramod Bhawan, with the participation of students from various schools.”

Since the video predates the Independence Day celebrations, we can ascertain that the viral video is old.

We further found that Arjun Singh had also shared the video on his X account to rebuke the viral claim. He shared the video with a caption suggesting that the video was of July 6 and is from the inauguration of his office in Barrackpore.

We further found a report published by a Bengali website, Bartaman Patrika, on June 22.

The report suggests that Arjun Singh inaugurated an office at Tata Gate, Titagarh, which had previously been the TMC Barrackpore–Dum Dum organisational district office. After the election results, BJP workers had allegedly vandalised and locked the office. It subsequently began functioning as Arjun Singh’s ministerial office. BJP leaders, including Bijpur MLA Sudipta Das, were present at the inauguration.

While we could not find the date for this particular office inauguration, we can ascertain that the viral is old and unrelated to the Independence Day celebration.
