A video of an incident inside an Assembly has gone viral. The video begins with a legislator protesting by shouting ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ and ends with marshalls forcefully removing more legislators from the hall.
Those sharing the video claim it shows BJP MLAs being thrown out of Jammu and Kashmir’s Legislative Assembly for chanting ‘Bharat mata ki jai’.
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “BJP MLAs were marshalled out in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the orders of the Speaker for raising Bharat Mata slogans.” (Translated from Hindi) (Archive)
SouthCheck found that the claim was misleading. The BJP MLAs were marshalled out amid a ruckus over Article 370.
We found that the person in the beginning of the video where he chants "Bharat Mata ki Jai" is Satish Sharma, BJP MLA from Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir.
Through a Google reverse image search, we found a similar video uploaded by a local Kashmiri news channel on Instagram on November 8, 2024.
The caption stated a tense situation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Legislative Assembly for the third consecutive day. It said BJP members were marshalled out following their protest against the resolution seeking special status for the region.

We found that Zee Bihar Jharkhand published the viral video on its Instagram page on November 8, 2024, also suggesting that the video shows chaos in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly over Article 370.
A report by The Times of India published on November 7, 2024, stated that a tense atmosphere prevailed inside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly as the MLAs of the BJP and National Conference clashed over the restoration of Article 370. As tensions flared up, the speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather, ordered the eviction of the opposition members.
Another report by Morung Express stated that the Assembly passed a resolution by voice vote seeking restoration of Article 370 in J&K, which was supported by deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary along with 42 MLAs of NC, three of PDP, three Independents and one CPI(M) MLA. However, the BJP opposed the resolution, seeing it as a disregard for the right of the Parliament that abrogated Article 370 and the Supreme Court that upheld the Parliament’s right to abrogate the same. To mark a protest, BJP MLAs stormed into the Well of the House raising slogans. Soon after, the speaker asked the marshals to take them out and not allow them to re-enter. The remaining 11 BJP MLAs staged a walkout in protest.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading. The BJP MLAs were forcefully removed when a debate over Article 370 in the J&K Assembly escalated.
