An image is being widely shared on social media in which people are seen throwing Congress flags in a disposable bin.
The image is being shared with a sarcastic comment suggesting that Congress is throwing their party flag because they are losing their power.
The BJP official X account shared the image with a caption that reads, “Lost cause? Toss it.” (Archive)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral image is edited.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that a YouTube short video was shared by a YouTube channel on July 25. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that Priyanka, Rahul and Dimple Yadav were throwing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) papers into the dustbin.
In the video, at around 17 seconds, we can see that Rahul Gandhi is seen throwing SIR in a laundry bag, on which it is written, ‘disposable bin.’ We also compared the screenshot with the viral image and found them to be similar. In the original image, one can see that Rahul Gandhi is holding a different page, and the other person standing beside him is not holding any paper.
We also found that a similar image was shared by a journalist, Rubika Liyaquat, on July 15, with a caption that reads, “…and once again the paper tore.” We compared and found that the viral image is similar. We can also see a woman in a green saree standing beside a man wearing a kurta.
However, in the original image, red papers are seen in the bin and not Congress flags.
According to a report, opposition MPs—including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and other INDIA bloc members—staged protests in Parliament and outside Makar Dwar over Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. They disrupted proceedings as both Houses were adjourned repeatedly.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
