A video is being widely shared on social media in which a man is seen assaulting a couple. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it is depicting ‘love jihad.’
‘Love jihad’ is a derogatory term alleging that Muslim men lure non-Muslim women into relationships to convert them—widely disputed and often used to stir communal narratives.
The text embedded in the video reads, “Follow this hardcore Hindu, hardcore Sanatani, share this video so much that our Hindu sisters can be saved from love jihad.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from Pakistan and shows behind-the-scenes footage of a movie shoot.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by an Instagram user, sarfaraz_mughal77, on December 21. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “The tea Man movie BTS,” suggesting that it is from a behind-the-scenes shoot of a movie.
The bio of the Instagram page suggests that he is an actor and a content creator.
The video was also shared by the person’s Facebook page on December 27. The caption suggests that the movie will be shared on the YouTube channel of Saifi Films.
The bio on Facebook also suggests that the person is an actor and Managing Director of TBFI system in Karachi, Pakistan.
Also in the video, we can clearly see people holding a camera, confirming that the scene is scripted and not a real event.
Hence, the claim is false.
