Although the CJP ended its nationwide protest on July 25 after the Centre accepted several key demands, the organisation claims police continue to arrest and detain protesters despite assurances of no punitive action. The Delhi Police are also allegedly using AI-assisted facial recognition and 360-degree surveillance cameras to identify those involved in the protests, drawing criticism from activists over privacy and the potential targeting of peaceful demonstrators.
The viral video
In the above context, a video showing police personnel and a group of people engaged in what appears to be a heated argument inside a police station has gone viral on social media.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Delhi Police identifying and arresting students involved in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests at Jantar Mantar. Many are circulating the video with the claim that it shows police identifying and arresting CJP protesters one by one and taking action against them.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “The kids who were in the protest, now the police is searching and catching them from videos. If this is true, then why isn’t @CJP_for_India doing something about it? Wasn’t the student protest on their say-so? Isn’t their safety after the protest their responsibility?”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from a February 2026 AISA altercation at Maurice Nagar Police Station in Delhi.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook page on February 15. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows an attack on a journalist, Richa Tiwari.
Since the date precedes the viral claim, we can ascertain that the viral video is unrelated to CJP protests.
We further found that the same video was shared by Jamia Times, an Instagram page, on February 14. The caption reads, “Members of the All India Students’ Association have alleged that they were threatened and verbally abused inside the Maurice Nagar Police Station, reportedly in the presence of police personnel. Videos shared on social media show a group of men confronting AISA activists within the police station premises. The student organisation claimed that the men used abusive language and issued threats while officers were present. AISA has demanded action against those involved and called for an independent inquiry into the incident. The police have not yet issued a detailed public response to the allegations.”
Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the screenshot of the video was also shared by The Print on February 16. The report associated with the image suggests that the incident involved members of the All-India Students’ Association (AISA), who had staged a protest outside Delhi University’s Faculty of Arts over new University Grants Commission (UGC) draft regulations. Another group was demonstrating against them. During the protest, YouTuber and content creator Richa Tiwari also arrived at the spot, following which an altercation broke out between the two sides. Police intervened and took members of both groups to Maurice Nagar Police Station, where cross-FIRs were registered.
