video is being widely shared on social media in which a people’s representative inside what looks like a Parliament or a State Assembly can be seen allegedly criticising prime minister Narendra Modi.

Those sharing the video claim that the person in it is a Nepal MP speaking during a Parliamentary session.

“Whatever Nepal MP said about Modi in Nepal’s Parliament, every Indian must watch this video tomorrow or whenever they go to the polling booth to vote and must also share it on all WhatsApp numbers of their mobile phones (translated from Hindi),” wrote an X user who shared the video.

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was misleading. The video is not related to Nepal or its lawmakers.

On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded by Live Times TV Himachal Pradesh on YouTube on March 17, 2021, titled, ‘Jagat Singh Negi lambasted the BJP in the House.’ Jagat Singh Negi, a Congress minister, has been a member of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly since 2012.

At around 3:39 minutes into the video, one can hear Negi making the viral remark.

A news channel, News Mx TV, also published the video on March 21, 2021. The caption of the video also suggested that the video shows visuals from the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

The official Facebook page of the Indian National Congress of Himachal Pradesh also uploaded the video on March 21, 2022, with a caption suggesting that Negi is the MLA from the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

We also skimmed through the Facebook bio of Negi and found he is currently a Cabinet minister in Himachal Pradesh. Hence, we can conclude that the viral video is shared with a misleading claim.
