Old video of women raising provocative slogans in Telangana shared with misleading claims.

A video has gone viral on social media in which some women wearing burkhas can be seen protesting. In the video, women are heard saying, “We will take Babri Masjid... We will demolish Ram Mandir.”

The video is shared with a caption claiming that the viral video is of Telangana, which is a Congress-ruled state.

Social media users shared the video with a caption that reads,”वीडियो कांग्रेस शासित तेलंगाना का बताया जा रहा है।"तोड़ेंगे-तोड़ेंगे राममंदिर तोड़ेंगे" इन्हीं कट्टरपंथी को खुश करने के लिये कांग्रेस का कोई नेता अयोध्या नहीं गया? कांग्रेस ने इन्हें छूट क्यों दी है, कार्यवाही क्यों नहीं?” (English translations, “The video is said to be from Congress ruled Telangana. Will demolish Ram temple. It was these radicals who Congress wanted to appsase by not visiting Ayodhya. Why has Congress given them leeway? Why no action?”)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found the claim to be misleading. We found that the viral video is old.

On searching with appropriate keywords, we found the same video was uploaded by the 21 News Channel on November 14, 2019. The video was uploaded with a caption claiming that prayers were held at Ujalesha Eidga in Saifabad amid a police blockade which was led by Muslim women. 

A Facebook video, published on November 21, 2019, also suggested that the viral video was old. The video was shared with a caption that read that over 100 women protested against the Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi case. Two women were also booked for raising communally charged slogans to break down the yet to be constructed Ram Mandir.

The incident was also reported by India Today on November 16, 2019. 

During this time the Telangana Rashtra Samithi was into power.Congress came into power in 2023 in the state.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
