A video is being widely shared on social media in which Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is heard saying, “Those who came in 2014, will they remain after 2024?”

Those sharing the video claim that Nitish Kumar is taking a jibe at the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, questioning the ability of the BJP and its alliance to come to power again.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “I cannot say whether those who came in 14 (2014) will be able to remain in power in 24 (2024): Nitish Kumar. (translated from Hindi)”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. We found that the video is old from when JDU was not an alliance of NDA.

On searching with appropriate keywords, we found the same video uploaded on the YouTube channel of Times Now on August 10, 2022. The caption of the video said, “Nitish Kumar takes oath as Bihar CM for the 8th time. These developments come after he announced a new ‘grand alliance’ with Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD & other opposition parties.”

ANI had also reported about the incident on August 10, 2022. The caption associated with the video read, “Those who came to power in 2014, will they be victorious in 2024?  I would like all (opposition) to be united for 2024. I am not a contender for any such post (on PM post): Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.”

The video was also uploaded by NDTV on its YouTube channel with the title, ‘Nitish Kumar Dares PM Narendra Modi: “He Won In 2014, But Will He In 2024?”’

However, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) allied with the BJP ahead of Lok Sabha polls on January 29, 2024. Soon after, party chief Nitish Kumar took oath as Bihar CM. This resulted in ‘the ruling JD(U)-RJD-Congress coalition in Bihar collapsing as Kumar crossed over to the NDA again.’

Hence, we ascertain that the viral video is old when JDU was in an alliance with RJD and Congress.
