In light of India losing against Australia in the final match of the ODI ICC World Cup 2023 on November 19, a video of Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma’s daughter Samaira has gone viral on social media. In the video, she could be heard saying, “He is in his room. He is almost positive, but in one month he will laugh.”

A social media user shared the video with a caption that read, “The way she answered Samaira said: He is in a room, he is almost positive & within one month he will laugh again. (sic)”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that Rohit Sharma’s daughter wasn’t referring to the India-Australia match in the video.

On searching with the keywords ‘Rohit Sharma, Samaira,’ we found the same video uploaded by the YouTube channel Celebrity Cricket League on June 28, 2022. The caption associated with the video read, “#RohitSharma #Samaira. #RohitSharmaDaughter ‘My Father is Taking Rest in the Room’ - Rohit Sharma Daughter Samaira Sharma Cute Reply. (sic)”

Another social media user also tweeted the same video on June 27, 2022, with a caption, “#RohitSharma Daughter #samaira Today at #Leicester How cute she is MY FATHER IS TAKING REST IN THE ROOM GOT #covidpositive @ritssajdeh @ImRo45 #ENGvIND @ITGDsports. (sic)”

Looking at the date on which the videos were published and the hashtags used, it can be inferred that the video has nothing to do with the ICC finals and something to do with Rohit Sharma being infected with Covid-19.

According to a report by The Times of India published on June 26, 2022, “India skipper Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19 in a Rapid Antigen Test and placed in isolation ahead of ‘fifth’ Test against England, the BCCI said.”

Hence, we conclude that the viral video refers to Rohit Sharma getting Covid-19 infection and is not about India losing the World Cup in 2023.
