Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim was misleading. We found the video was from 2018 showing the BJP candidate contesting for the Dhamnod civic elections in Madhya Pradesh.

On doing a Google reverse image search of one of the video’s keyframes, we found the screenshot of the same video uploaded by ABP Live on January 8, 2018. The title of the report read, ‘MP: BJP candidate Dinesh Sharma made to wear garland of shoes while he was campaigning for civic election.’

The report stated that Dinesh Sharma, A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Madhya Pradesh’s Dhamnod was garlanded with shoes while he was campaigning for the civic body elections on January 7, 2018.

NDTV also reported about the incident. The NDTV report stated that the man who put a garland around Mr Sharna wanted to highlight the acute water problem in the region.

ANI also shared the screenshots of the video on their Twitter handle.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and is not associated with the current Lok Sabha election campaign.
