Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh marched towards Delhi on February 13, 2024, demanding a legal guarantee of MSP for their crops.

In the above context, a video has gone viral on social media, in which some people wearing turbans are seen getting liquor from a car. The video is being shared with the claim that it shows liquor being distributed to farmers attending the protest.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “A group of revolutionary farmers, distraught with hunger and thirst, sitting on the Singhu border. This is the movement. (translated from English)”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the viral video is old and unrelated to the ongoing farmers’ protest.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found that the same video was uploaded by a YouTube channel on April 11, 2020. The caption of the video read, “Who are these donors interested in distributing liquor? (translated from Punjabi)”

A Facebook page uploaded the same video on April 11, 2020. Here is another Facebook post of the same video.

The contentious farmers’ law was passed in Parliament on September 14, 2020, after the farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh protested against the farm laws in 2020, demanding the repeal of the contentious laws.

While we couldn’t ascertain the exact source of the video and its location, since it has been in circulation since 2020, we conclude that the viral video is old and is not associated with the ongoing farmers’ protest.
