Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh have been marching towards Delhi since February 13, 2024. Their demands from the Central government include the compulsory provision of a minimum support price for their crops.

Against this backdrop, a video has gone viral on social media in which a person is seen removing his skullcap and wearing a blue turban while being helped by others.

The video is shared with a caption claiming that it is from the ongoing farmers’ protest where Muslims are allegedly joining the protest by wearing turbans and masquerading as farmers.

A social media user shared the video with the #FarmersProtest2024 #KisanAndolan2024 #FarmerProtest2024 and caption, “Before the shooting, actors are getting ready before going to the set!! But are they not able to find any Hindu artists and these Rohingya artists have to wear turban?? All of them are anti-nationalists in this fake farmer movement. (translated from Hindi)”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading as the viral video is not associated with the ongoing farmers’ protest.

We found that a social media user had shared a screenshot of an X post on June 9, 2022. We also found the original post in the screenshot uploaded by an X user on the same date with the #sidhumoosewala and #JusticeForSidhuMooseWala. The caption read, “Children of a master come, what Sardar and what Muhammad!! (translated from Punjabi)”

We also found that the same video was uploaded by an Instagram page on June 10, 2022. As per the Punjabi caption, it was regarding Sidhu Moosewala’s death. The Punjabi singer was shot down in May 2022 and a key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the murder.

While we could not ascertain the exact source of the video, we can confirm that the viral video is old and is not associated with the ongoing farmers’ project.
