Fact Check

SouthCheck found the claim to be misleading. We found the video is from Agra in Uttar Pradesh, where a feud between two BJP politicians led to vandalism.

Upon analysing the video, we found Agra written on the loudspeaker. This gave us a clue that the video is from Uttar Pradesh.

By doing a Google image search of the video’s keyframes, we found the video in a tweet posted by a journalist on December 7, 2021. The caption said, “At least half a dozen people were injured in stone pelting & several vehicles were damaged following a clash between supporters of former cabinet minister Raja Mahendra Aridman Singh & ex-block Pramukh Sugriv Singh during a bike rally in #Agra’s Pinhat area. @agrapolice”

We compared the keyframes of the viral video to the one uploaded by the journalist and found similarities between them which are marked below.

The X handle of Live Hindustan shared the video on December 7, 2021, with the caption, “In Agra, a scuffle happened during the bike rally of BJP leader Aridman Singh. BJP supporters of former minister Sugriv Singh Chauhan fought with each other in Pinhat. There was chaos due to stone pelting and vandalism of vehicles. Many people have been injured in the stone pelting. (Translated from Hindi)”

The Lallantop also did a video report on the incident titled ‘BJP MLA and former block chief clash with BJP leaders.’

The report suggested that a fight happened between both politicians over election tickets for the Bah Assembly Constituency of Agra. This resulted in heavy stone-pelting and many vehicles were vandalised. The caption of the video said, “The Bah Assembly constituency of Agra district of UP became a battlefield on Tuesday. However, the special thing about this ‘war’ was that there were leaders and supporters of the BJP on both sides. There was a lot of stone pelting, the windows of the vehicles were broken. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in this incident.”

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and shows BJP leaders fighting over the seat of the Bah Assembly constituency of Agra.
