Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is old and from Pakistan.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was also shared by an X user on April 12, 2024, with a caption that reads, “Tragic incident in Alipur. The wretched husband brutally murdered his wife and seven innocent children with an axe, chopping them into pieces.”

A similar video of the victims was shared on the Facebook page of a news website on April 11, 2024. The video was shared with a caption suggesting that the murder happened in Sadar Alipur, Muzaffargarh District. The report stated that a man killed his wife and seven children to death due to poverty. The name of the accused was Sajjad Khokhar

On searching with appropriate keywords, we found that the incident was also reported by Geo TV, a Pakistani media outlet, on April 12, 2024. According to the report, a man named Sajjad Khokhar killed his wife and seven children in the Midwala area of Alipur, citing a domestic dispute as the reason. The police had taken the accused into custody, and in the initial investigation, the accused confessed that he and his wife used to have daily arguments at home, which is why he killed the family member.

Moreover, we found that the incident was also reported by India Today on April 12, 2024. According to the report, “A poverty‑stricken man in Muzaffargarh’s Alipur (Punjab, Pakistan) murdered his wife and seven children—aged between eight months and 10 years—with an axe after claiming he could no longer feed them.”

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
