Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, one of the main leaders of the Khalistan movement, has threatened to attack the Parliament building on or before December 13, the anniversary of the 2001 attack. Recently, a man named Nikhil Gupta was charged with plotting to murder Pannun. A US chargesheet alleges that the Indian government hired Gupta to assassinate Pannun.

Moreover, The Indian Express reported that the United States had “thwarted a conspiracy to assassinate” Khalistan separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil.  Quoting a report by the Financial Times, it said that the US has issued a warning to India’s government over concerns it was involved in the plot.

In the backdrop of the above context, a video is widely being shared on social media, in which former US President Donald Trump says, "As far as I'm concerned, if you hate our country, if you are not happy here, then you can leave."

The video is shared with a caption that reads, "Another embarrassing moment for #Indians

Former American President #DonaldTrump states, "If Indians in the #UnitedStates are discontent after the thwarted assassination of #GurpatwantSinghPannun, they are welcome to leave immediately."

Fact Check:

SouthCheck found the claim to be misleading.

On searching with the keywords, “If you are not happy here, then you can leave,” we found the same video was uploaded by a YouTube channel, 10 Tampa Bay, on July 16, 2019. The video was shared with the caption, "During an event at the White House on Monday, President Trump did not back down from a series of tweets some are calling racist. The tweets appeared to target a group of female House Democrats, all but one born in the U.S., critical of how the country is being run.  The tweets suggested the lawmakers "go back and help fix the broken and crime-infested places from which they came."

AFP Agency also uploaded the video on its YouTube channel on July 15, 2019, with a caption, “As far as I'm concerned, if you hate our country, if you're not happy here, you can leave", says US President Donald Trump following his tweets at the weekend, taking aim at progressive Democratic congresswomen, telling them to "go back" where they came from. His remarks sparked yet another firestorm over his views on race and immigration.”

Bloomberg TV had also uploaded the video in 2019.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old and that Trump has made no statement against Indians who are resisting the assassination of Pannun. Instead, the US government itself has arrested and charged a person who was accused of plotting Pannun’s murder.
