West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee fell in her residence in Kalighat on March 14, 2024. She received a head injury after the fall and was taken to a state-run SSKM hospital.

In the above context, two images of Mamata Banerjee have gone viral on social media. In one image, the injury was at the center of her forehead, and in the other, she had a band-aid on the left side of her forehead.

The images are shared with a caption suggesting that Mamata Banerjee is faking her injury claiming that the band-aid is in the wrong place. A social media user shared the image with a caption, “Overnight injury moved from middle to left..? Waa Didi.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found the claim to be false. We found the other image was old and not associated with her recent injury.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search of the first image, we found that the first image was of the time when she was admitted to SSKM Hospital on March 14, 2021.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search of the second image, we found it was a screenshot of the video of ABP LIVE with a caption that reads, “What did Mamata say about the accident?” The video was shared on January 24, 2024.

Taking a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found a lengthier video that was shared by AsiaNet News Bangla, two months ago. The video was about how Mamata Banerjee met with an accident.

Moreover, a screenshot of the image was uploaded by ANI on January 24, 2024. The image was shared with a caption suggesting that  Mamata Banerjee got an injury on her forehead while returning from Burdwan to Kolkata by road after her car immediately applied brakes as another car suddenly came in front of the CM's convoy.

Hence, we can ascertain that images of two different incidents are shared to insinuate that Mamata Banerjee met with an accident.
