A video news report is being widely shared on social media about a man found dead in the forest. The video is shared with a caption claiming that a Hindu man was killed in Bangladesh.
A social media user (warning: disturbing visuals) shared the video with a caption that reads, “The body of a Hindu businessman was found sitting in the forest.” (Translated from Bangla) The hashtags associated with it are #SaveBangladeshiMinorities #SaveBangladeshiHindus.
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from Tripura and has no communal angle involved.
We found a logo on the top right corner of the video that read, ‘Shironame Tripura.’ Taking a hint, we searched on Facebook and found that the same video was uploaded by a Facebook page named Shironame Tripura on March 11, 2025. The caption associated with the video reads, “Businessman’s body while sitting in the jungle! Incident at Malaynagar bypass.”
Taking a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found that the incident was also reported by a Tripura-based media organisation, Tripura Info, on March 12, 2025. The report suggested that a 52-year-old man, Ranabir Deb, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Agartala. While police suspect suicide due to financial distress, his family alleges foul play and demands a thorough investigation.
We also found that the incident was also reported by the Noth East Herald on March 11, 2025. According to the report, trader Ranabir Deb (52) was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a jungle near Agartala Bypass Road on Tuesday. Locals discovered his body hanging in a sitting position and alerted the police. While authorities await forensic and autopsy reports, Deb’s sister alleges murder, insisting he had no reason to commit suicide. There is no mention of a communal motive behind the death.
Hence, we conclude that the viral claim is false.
