On March 17, communal clashes erupted in Nagpur over protests demanding the demolition of Aurangzeb’s tomb, injuring dozens of police officers and prompting a city-wide curfew.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which an elderly man is seen addressing the crowd. He can be heard saying, “No one will stand by you if you become friends with them tomorrow. No one will stand with you if you do business with them—with killers. We frequently hear that someone is conducting business with our people or that a Muslim has a friend. The same outcome will occur if this keeps up. Nobody needs to be friends with them or do business with them. Will everyone accept this?”

Those sharing the video claim it is from Nagpur, where the man was asking for the boycott of Muslims. A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Boycott started in Nagpur–Now Hindus are awake! Whenever the tolerance of the Hindus was considered, history has taught that Hindu does not sit silent!” (Translated from Hindi) (Archive)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. We found that the video is old and is from Delhi.

On a reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook user on March 16, 2025, with a caption that reads, “Rohit Gurjar was murdered in Delhi on March 9, 2025, by Jihadis living in Ghazipur Dairy Farm. Police still have a lax attitude, and the four main accused are out of police custody. Please, all my 36 communities,s come forward to get justice for my brother Rohit.”

Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the incident was reported by India Today on March 10, 2025. The report suggested, in Ghazipur, Delhi, a 32-year-old man was shot dead amid mounting unrest. Protesters flooded the streets and blocked National Highway 24, demanding justice and accountability, with chaotic scenes and heavy police presence.

Another report by Indian Express, dated March 11, 2025, suggested that the accused were identified as Nazim (40) and Talib (24), both residents of Ghazipur Dairy Farm, police said, adding that Nazim was previously involved in six criminal cases. The victim was identified as Rohit, who was shot on NH-24 near Phool Mandi and was rushed to LBS Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival, said deputy commissioner of police (east) Abhishek Dhania.

Therefore, we can ascertain that the viral claim is from Delhi and not Nagpur.
