

A video is being widely shared on social media in which a shack is seen on fire.
The video is shared with a caption claiming that it shows a Hindu temple attacked by an Islamic extremist group called Towhidi Janata in Bangladesh’s Kushtia region.
A social media user shared the video with the caption, “Towhidi Janata are setting fire to a temple in Kushtia.” (Translated from Bangla)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video shows a shop on fire, and there is no communal angle to the incident.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that a screenshot of the video was published by a Bangladeshi news website, Jamuna TV, on October 19.
According to the report, a fire broke out on October 19 at Alipur’s Badamtala Bazaar in Satkhira, Bangladesh, gutting four shops in the Alam Market. Reported damage is over ৳20 lakh, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The incident was also reported by another website, M.u71news, on October 19.
According to the report, four shops were burnt due to fire in Alam market in Alipur Badamtala Bazar in Satkhira Sadar in Bangladesh. The report also mentioned some of the victims whose shops were engulfed in fire. The name of one of the owners of the shop was Alam Gaazi. Thus, suggesting that no communal angle was involved in the incident.
The incident was also reported by Somoy TV.
We did not find any reports mentioning that the incident was communally motivated.
