A video of a large group of men attacking a moving vehicle with sticks has gone viral with the claim that it shows Muslim men attacking Hindus in Bangladesh.

A social media user shared the video with embedded text that reads, “Lives of Bangladesh Hindus are in danger.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video shows a clash between two Ijtema groups in Bangladesh.

On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video uploaded on YouTube on December 12, 2024. The video was shared with a Bangla caption which when translated into English reads, “Two Tablighi Jamaat members admitted to hospital after clashes between two parties before Ijtema begins.”

Taking a hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found a report by BBC News Bangla on December 18, 2024.

The report suggested that a clash between the two factions of the Tablighi Jamaat in Bangladesh, the Zubayr and Saad factions killed four people and injured over 50 followers. The clash was about the control of the Bishwa Ijtema Maidan on the banks of Turag in Tongi. The issue started when the supporters of Maulana Mohammad Saad Kandalvi took control of the Ijtema Maidan after chasing away the followers of Maulana Zubair Ahmed.

DW also reported the incident.

Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false.
