A video is being widely shared on social media in which people, some of whom are wearing skullcaps, are seen beating each other.
Those sharing the video claim that it shows Hindus being assaulted by Muslims for speaking against Pakistan in Bhavani Peth, Pune, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and India’s retaliation against Pakistan.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “A Hindu family was attacked for posting against Pakistan in Bhavani peth, Pune. Results of demographic change. (sic)”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is related to road rage and has no communal angle to it.
On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video was shared by an X account on April 29. The video was shared with a caption, which when translated in English, reads, “A brawl broke out in Pune’s Bhavani Peth over the trivial reason of honking a car horn. Last three seconds show stone-throwing by one side.”
The screenshot of the incident was also published by Lokmat Times on April 29. The report stated that in Pune’s Bhawani Peth area, a man and his family were brutally attacked by a group of people following a dispute over honking. The road rage incident, which took place in broad daylight, was captured on video and had gone viral. The family was allegedly surrounded, assaulted with sticks, and their car was damaged. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Another report from a local news website stated that the video shows a violent road rage incident on April 28, 2025, in Pune’s Bhavani Peth area, where a brother and sister were brutally assaulted following a dispute over honking.
The altercation began when a person named Harsh Keswani honked while riding his two-wheeler, angering Shoaib Sayyed, who allegedly assaulted him. Later, when Harsh returned with his grandfather and sister to confront Shoaib, they were attacked by Shoaib and his associates using stones, resulting in injuries to Harsh, his brother Karan and his sister Nikita. Shoaib also reportedly threatened to burn down their house. The Khadak Police have arrested Shoaib and registered a case of attempted murder against him and his accomplices.
Hence, we conclude that the viral claim is false.
