On March 4, during Holi celebrations in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, a minor dispute over a water splash escalated into a violent clash between two families, leading to the death of 26-year-old Tarun. The incident sparked protests, multiple arrests, and heightened communal tension, with questions raised about law and order and demands for a thorough investigation.

In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which people are seen raising a saffron flag and dancing near a mosque.

The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Hindus holding a rally in Uttam Nagar on Eid as a retaliation for the killing of Tarun.

A social media user shared the video with a caption, “This is Uttam Nagar scenes on Eid! Well done, Hindus of Uttam Nagar.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video is from 2024 and possibly shows some type of celebrations in Raichur, Karnataka, outside Osmania Masjid.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the longer version of the same video was shared by an Instagram page on September 23, 2024. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that the video was from Raichur. This proves that the video predates the 2026 Eid celebrations in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.

On closely examining the longer version of the video, a display board reading ‘Osmaniya Masjid, Raichur’ was visible. Also, we can see that a billboard on the left side of the mosque had text in Kannada. All of which suggests that the video is from Karnataka and not Delhi.

This detail helped us accurately geolocate the location shown in the viral clip to Raichur in Karnataka.

The information we gathered so far suggests that the viral video is of Karnataka’s Raichur and preceded the Uttam Nagar incident. However, we could not identify the event seen in the video.

Moreover, there were no reports of any such incident during Eid in Uttam Nagar. Instead, in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, Muslims offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers peacefully under heavy security weeks after communal tensions linked to a Holi clash. Despite alleged ‘khoon ki holi’ threats, residents expressed gratitude by showering flower petals on police and paramilitary personnel. Locals said the police ensured safety, helping maintain calm, even as some tension lingered in the area.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is false.
