A video is being widely shared on social media in which a group of men are seen assaulting a man while a woman tries to protect him.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that a ‘Hindutva mob’ was seen assaulting a Christian man in front of his wife.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Indian Hindutva mob inhumanly assaulted a frail, sick Christian man in front of his wife for taking a rest beside a Hindutva supporter’s car.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video shows a man being assaulted by a credit card debt recovery agent. The victim may not be a Christian and no communal angle has been mentioned in news reports about the incident.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by NDTV on April 28.
According to the report, a viral video from Pune’s Hadapsar shows alleged recovery agents brutally assaulting a man in front of his wife over unpaid credit card dues. The woman tried to stop them, but the attackers continued beating him on a busy road. Police later reached the spot, recorded statements and said further action would follow after investigation.
The screenshot of the video was also shared by Lokmat on April 28.
According to the report, the name of the person who was beaten up is Sandeep Jamdar. A non-cognizable case has been registered at Hadapsar police station against three people: Jay Kasar, Vineet Kasar and Tanish Khude. According to the information provided by the police, these three recovery agents of a private credit card company stopped Jamdar at Chowk No. 15 to recover the dues. At this time, an argument broke out, and it turned into a direct assault.
We found that the incident was also reported by ABP Live.
We also tried reaching out to Hadaspur police station for more info and the article will be updated based on it.
However, we can ascertain that the viral claim has no communal angle involved in it.
