Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned from her post and fled the country amid the chaos from the escalating anti-government protests in the country.
In the above backdrop, an image of men lying on a bed has gone viral on social media. The image is shared with the caption that it shows protestors occupying the bedroom of Sheikh Hasina.
A social media user shared the image and wrote, “Scenes from Shiekh Hasina’s bedroom.”
SouthCheck found that the claim was false. The image is from 2022, showing people inside the Sri Lankan president’s house.
On doing a Google reverse image search, we found that the same image was uploaded by The Hindustan Times on July 10, 2022. The caption associated with the image read, “Demonstrators sleep on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s bed at the President’s house, on the following day after demonstrators entered the building in Colombo, Sri Lanka.”
We found that the same image was also published by Reuters suggesting that demonstrators slept inside the bedroom of the Sri Lankan president after he fled from the country.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral image is old and unrelated to Bangladesh and the ongoing unrest in the country.
