A video is going viral on social media in which a massive explosion can be seen behind a building. The text embedded on the video reads, “BIG BREAKING: Iran launched a deadly missile attack on a US base in Kuwait.” (Translated from Hindi)
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows an Iranian missile strike on a US military base in Kuwait.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “The continued tensions between America and Iran are now once again seen to reach a dangerous turn. Iran claims to target a US Airbase in retaliation after a US military operation in Bandar Abbas. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attack was in response to American aggression. Meanwhile, Kuwait has also confirmed that its air security system is intercepting missiles and drone attacks. The continuously rising military tensions have raised concern across the Middle East.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The viral video shows an Israeli airstrike targeting a Hezbollah position in southern Lebanon.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by the Instagram page of an Israeli media organisation, ILTV on May 28. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “The Israeli Air Force carried out strikes against terror targets in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.”
We found that the same video was also shared by the New York Post on May 28.
In the video, at around 31 seconds, we can see the same viral clip. The video is shared with a caption that reads, “Massive explosions echoed through the city of Tyre, Lebanon, after an Israeli airstrike on May 28th, as the Israeli military announced it had begun striking Hezbollah infrastructure in the city. Israel's military on Wednesday (May 27) declared a new swathe of southern Lebanon as a combat zone and said residents in the area should move north.”
The video was also shared by a Danish website, TV2 News, on May 28, suggesting that the video was of Israel launching a new wave of attacks on southern Lebanon.
Taking a hint, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the incident was also reported by Al Jazeera on May 27.
According to the report, at least two people were killed in an Israeli air attack in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities. The strike targeted areas near the border despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Israeli forces said they were targeting Hezbollah positions and infrastructure. The attack came amid continued exchanges of fire and raised concerns that the fragile ceasefire efforts could further unravel, worsening instability in the region.
Has Iran attacked US base in Kuwait?
According to media reports, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks targeting US military facilities in Kuwait as part of the escalating US-Iran conflict. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks were retaliation for US strikes on Iranian targets, including Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
Therefore, the claim is false.
