

A video of people rescuing passengers of a bus overturned in a water stream has gone viral. Those sharing the video claim that it shows a bus that fell into a water drain on its way to Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The text on the video states that the accident killed 10 people including children.
An Instagram user shared the video and wrote, “The bus going to Maha Kumbh fell in the drain.” (Translated from Hindi)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is old and from Pakistan.
On a Google reverse image search, we found the same video on Instagram shared on November 4, 2024. The caption read, “Bus accident in Riwind Ijtema.” The date of the post confirmed that the video is old.
Maha Kumbh Mela is a Hindu festival being held at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh from January 13 to February 26, 2025.
Further, we searched with relevant keywords and found the same video uploaded by HUM News channel on November 3, 2024. The report suggested that a bus carrying passengers from Tablighi Ijtema fell into a drain in Lahore.
A report by The Express Tribune published on November 4, 2024, gave more details about the same incident. It stated that a bus carrying over 70 men fell into a drain in Raiwind resulting in injuries to 29 passengers. The incident occurred while the bus was en route to Kot Addu after the congregation’s concluding prayers.
Therefore, we conclude that the viral claim is false.
