Social media users are sharing a video showing a person assaulting a woman on the road.
Users claim that the man in the video is an illegal immigrant from Pakistan living in the USA.
A social media user shared the video with the caption, “New York City: A woman caught like an animal and groped on the road. A Pakistan-origin illegal migrant Mohammad Qamar arrested.”

SouthCheck found the claim to be false. We found that the man in the viral video is a New York citizen.
On doing a Google reverse image search, we found the same video published by the New York Post on May 10, 2024. The report suggested that the incident happened on May 1, 2024, near East 152nd Street and Third Avenue.
Taking the hint, we searched with appropriate keywords and found a report published by Eyewitness News on May 12, 2024. We found that the name of the person was Kashaan Parks who was 39 years old. He was charged with second-degree rape, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, sex abuse in the first degree, first-degree public lewdness and harassment in the first degree.
We further found another report by the New York Post suggested that the name of the accused was Kashaan Park and he was arrested by the police on May 11, 2024. The report quoted his mother whose name was Beverly Park and had facilitated her arrest.
We further searched the name Kashaan Park on the website of the Department of Correction and found details about him. The site was arrested on May 11, 2024. The website also described his race as black and suggested that he is a native of The United States.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
