A video is being widely shared on the internet in which a man is seen brutally assaulting a boy inside a restaurant.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows a stepfather beating his stepson in a restaurant in India.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “INDIA | UNBRIDLED VIOLENCE: A stepfather repeatedly and with extreme violence beat his young stepson. Innocent child.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from Lahore, Pakistan.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by an Instagram page, with a caption that reads, “Stepfather arrested for brutal assault on minor in Kallurkot hotel.” The caption suggested that the incident happened on April 11.
Using this information, we searched with relevant keywords and found that the screenshot of the same video was shared by a Pakistani news website, Minute Mirror, on April 11.
According to the report, a man in Kallurkot, Pakistan, was arrested after CCTV footage showed him brutally assaulting his minor stepson inside a hotel. The incident gained widespread attention on social media, prompting swift police action. A case was registered following the mother’s complaint, and the child was shifted to the hospital, where his condition was reported stable. Authorities have launched a further investigation into the case.
Another Pakistani website, Jehan Pakistan, also reported on this incident on April 11.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral incident happened in Pakistan and not India.
