Heavy monsoon rains triggered severe flooding and landslides across parts of Kerala from late July, with major flooding reported on August 1–2.
Several districts experienced inundation, road disruptions and rescue operations as intense rainfall overwhelmed local drainage systems. The flooding also caused deaths and displacement, while authorities warned of further heavy rain.
In the above context, a video is being widely shared on social media in which a man and his bike are being swept away by raging floodwaters. It shows a person struggling against the current before being carried away in the middle of the road with heavy traffic on the sides.
The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows the situation of the recent Kerala flood.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Fresh Flood Crisis Unfolds in Kerala Today: Multiple Areas Inundated Again! Kerala is witnessing a renewed flood scare today as heavy and continuous downpours trigger fresh waterlogging across the state. The relentless rainfall has caused water to rapidly accumulate in low-lying areas, sparking panic among the residents once again. With roads submerged and transportation severely affected, the administration has been placed on high alert to tackle the escalating crisis.”
A Google reverse image search of the viral video led to an Instagram post from August 20, 2025, which carried the same footage. The caption associated with the video read, “Tuesday’s heavy rainfall in Karachi led to a man being swept away by rainwater on Shahrah-e-Faisal.”
Since the date of the video preceded the flood in Kerala, we can ascertain that the viral video is old.
We further found that the same video was also shared by a YouTube channel on August 20, 2025, with a caption that reads, “Rain Emergency in Karachi | Shocking Scenes: Man Swept Away at Shahrah-e-Faisal Floods.”
Moreover, we searched with relevant keywords and found a drone video of the place posted by a YouTube channel on August 19, 2025.
The video is shared with a caption that reads, “Experience the dramatic scenes of Karachi after heavy rain with this 4K drone footage showing urban flooding, waterlogged roads, and massive traffic jams. Captured from above, this video also highlights the beautiful cloudy weather over Karachi, contrasting the city’s beauty with its challenges during the monsoon season.”
In the video at around 2:26 timestamp, we can see the same billboard as seen in the viral video. We can also see a signboard where ‘Knorr’ is written near a flyover. All of which suggests that the viral video is of the same place.
In the drone video, we can see a building named 81 Tower. We checked for the building on Google Maps and found its location in Shahra-e-Faisal, Karachi, Pakistan.
Thus, we can ascertain that the viral video is from Karachi in Pakistan, not Kerala. The claim is false.
Did Karachi witness floods last year?
We further found that, according to reports, Karachi experienced significant urban flooding around August 19-20, 2025. At least 11 people died and 10 others were injured due to torrential monsoon rains that flooded roads, collapsed structures, and caused widespread power outages.
