CCTV footage showing a man being assaulted and stabbed by three men inside a building has gone viral.
The video is shared with a caption claiming that a Hindu man were attacked by Muslims.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “If Muslims are using knives, swords, bombs and guns so freely, openly slaughtering, stabbing, slashing and blasting, will you still not bring strict laws? Won’t you do it? Will you bring them after Hindu society becomes a minority or after everyone is dead?” (Translated from Telugu)
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. The video is from Bangladesh and has no communal angle to it.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the screenshot of the video was shared by a Bangladeshi website, BDNews24, on August 14.
According to the report, a 31-year-old man, Rahat Hossain Rabbi, was stabbed to death outside a shisha bar in Banani, Dhaka, in the early hours of August 14. He was ambushed by a group while leaving the place.
According to another news report, the Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge said that some youths stabbed the rabbi in the leg on the second-floor stairs of a bar called 360 Degree in Banani. The rabbi was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead. The police had arrested four suspects: Mir Hossain (22), Fazle Rabbi (24), Sabbir Ahmed Sumon (30) and Arafat Islam Fahim (27).
According to Observer BD, the victim was Rahat Hossain Rabbi, who was stabbed on the staircase of the 360 Degree shisha bar in Banani while leaving the venue. The father of the victim was Rabbi’s father, Rabiul Awal.
According to The Report, the victim and the two accused had a long-standing dispute over dominance inside the shisha bar. Just hours earlier, the Rabbi had asked Munna to leave the lounge, which, combined with previous enmity, allegedly led to the fatal attack.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
