A video is being widely shared on social media in which a girl playing her violin on the stage for an audience stops when some people ask for the show to be stopped.
Many social media users shared the video with a caption suggesting that it shows Muslims stopping a classical music concert in Kerala.
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Muslims in Kerala stopped a classical music concert.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is false. It was the Kerala police who halted the music concert.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by Manorama News on March 5. The video was shared with a caption that reads, “‘At least complete that song; it is a small child..!’ Police demanded to stop the program at 10 pm during Ganga Sasidharan violin concert at Kottamkulangara temple in Alappuzha.”
We found that Manorama News also reported about the incident on its website on March 9. The report stated that police in Alappuzha halted the violin recital of 10-year-old Ganga Sasidharan at Kottamkulangara Temple because the performance exceeded Kerala’s pm sound curfew. The news further suggested that the girl was later invited to play the violin by Union minister of State Suresh Gopi.
We further found that according to a circular by Kerala police, loudspeaker is banned in Kerala between 10 pm to 6 am.
According to a report by One India Malayalam, the girl, identified as Ganga, was playing a Tamil song when the police intervened and asked her to stop the concert. The video went viral, and people condemned the act of the Kerala police. The report further clarified that the incident has no communal angle involved in it.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
