The NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy emerged after the medical entrance exam was held on May 3.
Investigators alleged that leaked ‘guess papers’ circulated through coaching networks in Rajasthan and other states matched many actual exam questions. Following nationwide outrage, arrests, and a CBI probe, the National Testing Agency cancelled the exam and announced a re-test for June 21. The scandal reignited concerns over corruption and fairness in India’s competitive exams.
In the above context, a video of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is being widely shared on social media in which he is heard saying, “There will be no resignation. This is not the UPA government, this is the NDA government.”
The video is shared with a caption claiming that he made the remark while defending Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan amid demands for his resignation over the NEET row.
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Listen to what shameless Rajnath Singh is saying: Some ‘anti-national’ people are demanding the resignation of the Modi government’s education minister over the NEET paper leak. Rajnath Singh is saying to tell them, this is not a UPA government where ministers resign, taking responsibility. This is an NDA government, Modiji’s government. Our minister will remain glued to his chair. Do whatever you want! #NEET #Congress #BJP #exam #RajnathSingh #modi”)
SouthCheck found that the video is from 2015, when Rajnath Singh was responding to questions regarding the Lalit Modi controversy.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by the official YouTube channel of the BJP on June 24, 2015.
The video is of a press conference. In the video, at around the 23:00-minute timestamp, we can see a journalist saying, “Congress is saying that they will not allow the session to be held and demands the resignation of three ministers.” To this, Rajnath Singh answers, “There will be no resignation. This is not the UPA government, this is the NDA government.”
We further found that the incident was also reported by Business Standard on June 24, 2015.
The report also shares the screenshot of the viral video and suggests that in 2015, amid the Lalit Modi controversy, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh ruled out resignations of BJP ministers accused by the opposition of helping former IPL chief Lalit Modi. Singh said, “This is NDA, not UPA,” while defending leaders, including Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje, against Congress demands for their removal.
We found that Times Now had also shared the viral clip on June 24, 2015, with a caption that reads, “Home Minister Rajnath Singh today ruled out the possibility of resignations of any Union Minister, including Sushma Swaraj, who is under attack in the ‘Lalitgate’ controversy. “Our ministers do not have to resign. This is not UPA government, this is NDA government,” he said. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also added that the actions of the NDA ministers were not similar in proportion to those of the UPA ministers’. These statements come on a day when a Delhi court said that the plea against HRD minister Smriti Irani in the fake degree row case is ‘maintainable’, which has led to the Opposition demanding her resignation. TIMES NOW had exposed the involvement of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in helping Lalit Modi's travel and stay in the UK, even when the Enforcement Directorate was probing cases of financial irregularities against him.”
We also found no reports of Rajnath Singh making any remarks on the NEET paper leak. Thus, we can ascertain that the viral claim is false.
