The Madhya Pradesh State Assembly Elections were held on November 17, 2023, and the results were declared on December 3 with the BJP retaining the government by winning a comfortable majority of 163 seats out of the total 230 Assembly seats.

On December 11, the BJP ended the suspense on their CM-elect by choosing Mohan Yadav, three-time MLA from Ujjain, after removing incumbent Shivraj Singh Chouhan from the post.

In the above context, a video of former MP CM Shivraj Singh has gone viral on social media, with the claim that he is crying over losing his post while being consoled by people around him.

An X user shared the video with the caption, “Shivraj Singh Chauhan. This betrayal from Modi Shah is bigger than anything. Its Bezzati of Madhya Pradesh. Modi & Shah, you will also cry in 2024 after lost election in 2024. Such senior leader crying, truly i am feeling bad for him. BJP kisi ki sagi nahi. (sic)”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the video is not related to elections.

On searching with appropriate keywords, we found the same video uploaded by News Tak on its YouTube channel on July 19, 2019. The video was shared with the Hindi caption, “गोद ली हुई बेटी की मौत पर फफक-फफक कर रो पड़े शिवराज सिंह चौहान.” (Shivraj Singh Chouhan weeping over the death of his adopted daughter.)”

News18 and Amar Ujala also reported about the incident on July 19, 2019. According to News18, the adopted daughter of Chouhan died due to not getting timely treatment. Soon after receiving the information about the daughter’s death, Shivraj Singh’s wife, Sadhna, and son, Kartikeya, reached Vidisha.

Thus, we conclude that an old video of Chouhan crying over the death of his daughter has been falsely linked to the recent elections.
