Social media users are sharing an image of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in which she could be seen having a sumptuous meal. Users claim that Hasina is feasting in India after she fled Bangladesh following a popular uprising.

A social media user shared the image with a caption that reads, “अपने लोग भूखे मर रहे और मोदी जी इस हरामजादी को मटन कबाब खिला रहे हैं। बचपन की मुहब्बत बारे सुना था परंतु यह बुढ़ापे का इश्क कहीं देश को डबो ही न दे.” (English translation, “Our people are dying of hunger and Modi ji is feeding mutton kebabs to this bastard. I had heard about childhood love, but this love of old age may drown the country.”)

Fact Check

SouthCheck found the claim to be misleading. We found that the viral image is old and shows her having dinner at Danveer Ranadaprasad Saha’s home.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found that the same image was published by the website Sangbad Pratidin on March 15, 2019. The report associated with the image suggested that the image was of the time when Hasina attended the commemoration and award ceremony of Martyr Danveer Ranadaprasad Saha at Bharateshwari Homes, Kumudini Complex, Mirzapur. She was served a 31-course Bengali meal on a copper plate.

The image was also published by Ittefaq on March 15, 2019. Hence, we can ascertain that the viral image is old and is not from India.
