Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 are scheduled for November 20. Against this backdrop, a video is being widely shared on social media in which bundles of various Indian currency denominations can be seen.
Those sharing the video claim it shows cash seized from a car in Parbat Jhadi of Khed Shivapur, Pune district, Maharashtra, insinuating that the money belonged to the ruling party in Maharashtra caught distributing illegal cash incentives to candidates.
A social media user shared the video and wrote, “Maharashtra: Sharad Pawar faction leader Rohit Pawar posted a video of the money and wrote: ‘There is talk of giving Rs 25 crore each to the candidates of the ruling party as the first instalment of the election.’ One of these vehicles was caught yesterday in Parbat Jhadi (MLA Shahaji Patil) of Khed Shivapur. Where are the remaining four vehicles? #MaharashtraElections2024.” (Translated from Hindi)

SouthCheck found that the claim was false. The viral video is at least four years old.
Through a Google reverse image search, we found the same video on YouTube uploaded on September 11, 2021. Another upload contained the same video dated May 10, 2020. This indicated that the video was old.
A reverse image search on multiple platforms and a scan with relevant keywords did not provide the source of the video. We also found no news sources that would suggest when and where the video was taken.
While none of the links mentioned details regarding the context of the video, we can conclude that the viral video is old and unrelated to the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024.
