A video of drones is being widely shared on social media. The video is shared with a caption suggesting that it shows Pakistani drones spotted near the Line of Control in the Jammu and Kashmir border area after 8 months of Operation Sindoor.
What is Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor was India’s military counter-strike against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, launched on May 7, 2025, in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. It targeted multiple militant bases with precision strikes to dismantle terrorist networks.
The text embedded in the video reads, “Breaking: Multiple Pakistani drones enter Loc in Jammu & Kashmir nearly 8 months after Op Sindoor. Security forces reveal they hovered around the border: Report”
A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Multiple Pakistani drones were detected crossing the Line of Control (LoC) nearly eight months after Operation Sindoor. The drones were reportedly seen hovering near sensitive border areas before disappearing from radar. Security forces have taken the incident seriously and increased surveillance in forward areas. Officials are checking whether the drones were used for reconnaissance, smuggling, or other hostile activities. The incident has raised fresh security concerns, especially after recent counter-terror operations. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities remain on high alert.”
SouthCheck found that the claim is misleading. The viral video shows drones spotted near the Line of Control in May 2025. It is not a recent video.
On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by a Facebook page on May 13, 2025, with a caption that reads, “In Jammu’s Samba district, the army’s defence system intercepted drones sent by Pakistan tonight once again.” This confirmed that the viral video is old.
We further found that the screenshot of the viral video was also shared by a website, Defence Stories, on May 12, 2025.
According to the report associated with the image, moments after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address about Operation Sindoor on May 12, 2025, reports said Pakistani drones were sighted over multiple Indian locations, including Jalandhar, Pathankot, Samba, Kathua and near the Northern Command and Air Force Station in Udhampur. Indian air defences intercepted the drones, and blackouts were imposed as a precaution.
The screenshot of the incident was also shared by News 18 on May 13, 2025, with a caption suggesting that the Line of Control and international borders witnessed firing, drone sightings and ceasefire violations, with both sides claiming damage and responding militarily. A conditional ceasefire was later agreed, though tensions and patrol alertness remained high.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is old. The claim is misleading.
