A video of a news clip of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral on social media. In the video, PM Modi is seen addressing an Indian community event in Auckland, New Zealand. In the video, he says that India is a leading producer of goods used worldwide.

Many social media users shared the video with a caption suggesting that PM Modi has said that India is the second-largest beef producer while he is in New Zealand.

A social media user shared the video with a caption that reads, “Upon reaching New Zealand, the self-proclaimed world gurus among the blind devotees started dispensing wisdom on beef and fish.”

Fact Check

SouthCheck found that the claim is false. In his original speech, PM Modi referred to India as the world’s second-largest wheat producer, not beef producer.

On a Google reverse image search, we found that the same video was shared by ANI on its X account on July 11. In the caption associated with the video, the statement said by PM Modi is clearly mentioned and suggests that he said, “India is the largest wheat producer.”

The caption reads, “#WATCH | New Zealand: At the community event in Auckland, PM Narendra Modi says, "Today India is the world's fastest-growing major economy. India is the world's largest vaccine producer. India is among the leading nations in the world in terms of mobile data consumption. India is the world's second-largest mobile manufacturer. India is the world's second-largest telecom market. India is the world's second-largest wheat producer. India is the world's largest milk producer. India is the world's second-largest fish producer. Today, India is also the world's third-largest automobile market. India has become the world's third-largest startup ecosystem. India is soon going to become the world's third-largest renewable energy producer. India has also joined the ranks of the world's leading nations in terms of solar energy capacity. The India of today is also offering new models of development to the world...Dozens of countries around the world are showing interest in India's digital public infrastructure sector today...”

Additionally, we found the original speech delivered by PM Modi at an Indian community event in Auckland, New Zealand, on July 11, which was streamed live on PMO India’s official YouTube channel. At the 1:01:22 timestamp, PM Modi can be clearly heard saying that India is the world's second-largest producer of wheat.

We further found that PIB Fact Check, the official fact-checking account of the Government of India, had also debunked the viral claim. Taking to X on July 14, it wrote, “A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing rounds on the internet, allegedly claiming that during an event in Auckland, New Zealand, the Prime Minister stated that India is the world’s second-largest beef producer. This claim is #Fake Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not make any such statement. At the Auckland event, he stated that India is the world’s second-largest wheat producer.”
